What is Cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis is a safe way to remove stubborn fat by freezing fat cells. After the fat cells are frozen, they are naturally disposed by the body. With cryolipolysis you achieve visible permanent results without surgery.

Cryolipolysis: removing fat without surgery!

CoolSculpting is the only provider of cryolipolysis that is scientifically proven and FDA approved. The CoolSculpting cryolipolysis treatment is developed by scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. They discovered that fat cells can be affected by cold. This led to the development of an innovative cooling process in which the fat cells under the skin are strongly cooled. Once you freeze the treated fat cells, they die off and are naturally disposed by the body in the period following the treatment. This causes the fat cell to permanently disappear from the body. The procedure is very precise to apply and also very safe.

How does Cryolipolysis work?

1. The Cryolipolysis Treatment Plan

During the initial (free) intake, our CoolSculpting Specialist will determine if the CoolSculpting Cryolipolysis method is suitable for you. CoolSculpting treats the fat cells that lie between the epidermis and the muscles. CoolSculpting is not suitable for treating visceral fat (organ fat). This fat can only be reduced by a lot of exercise and a healthy diet.
Together with our CoolSculpting Specialist we will create a personalized treatment plan for you. This will list exactly which areas of your body can be treated with CoolSculpting and the final cost of it.

2. Applying the applicator

Prior to the cryolipolysis treatment we mark the areas that will be treated with a special skin marker. Then we place the applicator on the area to be treated. Through a strong vacuum the skin, including the subcutaneous fat layer, will be sucked into the applicator after which the cooling (cryolipolysis) begins. During the treatment feel free to read a magazine, check your email or just relax.

3. Cooling the fat cells

For 35 minute the fat cells in the applicator are cooled with a temperature of -11 degrees. As a result the fat cells themselves will drop to a temperature of 2 to 4 degrees. This process is called cryolipolysis. After 35 minutes the applicator will be removed from the body and the treated area will be massaged intensively for two minutes. The skin may color red. This often disappears within half an hour.

4. The natural disposal of fat cells

After the CoolSculpting treatment the fat cells are seen by your body as abnormal and die off. This process is called apoptosis. The broken down fat cells are naturally broken down and disposed during 8 to 12 weeks after your treatment. In this CoolSculpting differs from liposuction where fat cells are removed in a non-natural way. Removed fat cells do not return.

5. Visible results

At least 8 weeks after your CoolSculpting cryolipolysis treatment the first results become visible. The process of disposal continues for 16 weeks after our treatment. Because the process is so gradual, your skin also has the ability to adjust to the new situation and slowly move back along with it.

6. Getting used to your new look

During the checkup appointment, which takes place around 12 weeks after the treatment, we will again take pictures. Together we’ll review the photos from before and after the CoolSculpting treatment and discuss the results. Sometimes it takes some time getting used to your new, slimmer look.
