During the lockdown, Lotte had big plans: get fit! Walking daily and taking virtual high-intensity pilates classes. Lotte wanted to come out of the lockdown stronger than ever and go into summer bikiniproof. But before she knew it, she was six months on…
Through wiemooiwilzijn, she came across EMSculpt and wrote a blog article about it.
My new yoga mat is gathering dust and I have come to realise that I do not belong to the group of people who exercise without external encouragement. I do belong to the group of people who look at sweaty tight bodies on Instagram with a big glass of wine and a bag of chips and think to themselves tomorrow I’m going to start. Anyway, that six months and bottles of wine have flown by. In this column, I talk about my experience with the Emsculpt.
Thanks to wiemooiwilzijn, I heard about the Emsculpt. The first non-invasive treatment to help reduce local fat and build muscle mass. The device promises a workout equivalent to 20,000 situps or squats in just 30 minutes.
That sounds like music to my ears, but at the same time it reminds me of the Tell Sell commercials I could watch for hours as a child. I remember the beautiful, athletic women touting some (non-working) belly band as their secret.
With a glass of wine in hand, I researched the Emsculpt. And the more I read about it, the more enthusiastic I became. Many promising scientific articles and inspiring stories of experience further on, I decided to undergo the recommended four treatments in a fortnight.
Emsculpt is based on High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic (HIFEM) field technology that can induce supramaximal muscle contractions. The rapidly changing magnetic field induces electric currents in the tissue, where it depolarises neural membranes and regulates motor units in the target muscles, causing concentric contractions. The effects are highly selective; due to its physiological characteristics, only motor neurons are activated, while other neurons or tissues do not respond to the current and are therefore unaffected.
Laten we eens kijken waar al die ophef over gaat.
So. 20,000 contractions in 30 minutes through electromagnetic units that sit around the abdomen with a tight band, requiring you to do nothing. The device does the work for you. Still, it sounds a bit scary, because how on earth is such a thing possible? After all, after 20 situps, I am already panting and wheezing. So I was a bit nervous before my first treatment. Still, I was not too bad at all. Indeed, I secretly found it quite pleasant. Not bad at all!
I happily completed the four treatments and started to actually see and feel a difference. Not only did my abs gently emerge, but my motivation to exercise came back too!
I wanted to keep the lines I was starting to see on my belly, so I decided to dust off my yoga mat and start doing abdominal exercises. Wauw! What a difference! I just really noticed increased strength and can now keep it up without puffing and panting. I just feel like exercising again, my tummy is tighter and can’t wait to parade around in bikini this summer.
